With Digital Transformation Cos Are Moving from Traditional Storage to Flash

Anuroop Gupta, Country Sales Manager – OEM Business, Brocade in conversation with Urvashi Melwani talks about digitization and its impact on enterprise storage along with Brocade’s strategy.

Q. How is Brocade helping organizations in their digitization journey?

With emergence of technologies like IOT, mobility, big data and analytics, digitization has given rise to exponential data growth. In fact, a study states that every 2-3 years the data will be doubling up. To support this data growth, organizations need to have a robust infrastructure. Here, network plays an important role.

Brocade has been launching new products to support this data growth and the changing customer needs. Our recently launched G610 switch has a lot of software features which help deliver what customers want from the network. Towards organizations’ need for a robust, scalable and flexible network, the G610 switch can support trends like all flash-array and digitization needs.

This switch has been launched with a clear message that any customer who wants to have benefits of FC can deploy this switch. We had launched the higher end and mid-level switches initially and now we have started launching entry-level switches as well.

Q. What key features does the G610 switch have to offer?

The G610 switch incorporates the VM Insight feature, which comes with fabric vision license and helps deliver proactive visibility into the health and performance of all the individual VMs. Also, the G610 switch is Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) ready from day one. Even if customers tomorrow decide to move to NVMe storage, they can easily connect the switch and continue without any disruption.

Q. Why did brocade decide to launch a 32 gig witch in the market?

A 32gig switch helps to support growth in flash, and studies estimate that by 2020, 80% of all storage will only be flash. A 16Gb or 8Gb storage networking cannot give you the same performance that a 32Gb network can do, and that is why Brocade has launched a 32Gb switch in the market.

As this is an entry-level product, it can cater to any segment. It starts with as small as 8 ports and can go up to 24 ports. So, the entry barrier is also very low. This is the most affordable and low cost entry switch because we want every customer to try and move to storage networking connectivity.

Q. What is your recommendation for enterprises on their digitization journey?

While customers are putting too much pressure to deploy correct storage and server, it is equally important to have a network which is the backbone, because the storage network switch is one that will connect storage to server.

Q. How is digital transformation impacting enterprise storage trends?

With digital transformation we have seen that companies are moving from traditional storage to flash due to its high performance. Another storage technology that is being adopted is NVMe.
