Businesses, CEOs, CFOs, CIOs & Cloud Journey

In this new age of rapid development staying ahead of competitors is the key. Regardless of any industry, every company has become technology company out of necessity. Every company enterprise completely depends through IT, and if companies are limited to on-premise servers then they are giving their competitors an advantage.

Today’s enterprises running on-premise lack speed, scalability and potential cost savings which cloud is offering. Best way to break these barriers is moving into cloud which provides technologies to you and your company enterprise with speed, scalability & Cost savings in the longer run. We will not discuss costing in detail as cost depends on required compute, storage etc is needed for organization but in general 22-24 percent reduction in cost over a period of 10-12 years or longer when compared on premise solution.

Businesses or CEOs should not be continuing to invest in aging and expensive infrastructure that can’t keep pace with the changes in modern technology, migrating to the cloud is a choice for the future and CIOs & CFOs should adapt to technology and save money on IT Budgets.

According to the Cisco Global Cloud Index, cloud-based data centers will process 92 percent of enterprise workloads by 2020. Popular Cloud services providers Amazon web services, Azure & Google cloud are growing at rapid pace adding more customer base which shows cloud is the future.

What is Cloud migration?

Cloud migration is moving your data, applications, and even infrastructure from your on-premises computers or infrastructure to a virtual pool of on-demand, shared resources that offer compute, storage, and network services at scale.

Popular myth that Cloud is not safe.

I would say cloud is completely safe. All the cloud providers AWS, Azure & Google Cloud have industry standard security certifications. In USA 70 Percent of Enterprise companies use at least minimum one enterprise solution on cloud . I have lived in USA and Singapore and know many government agencies with strict policies who are using Cloud based solutions or Cloud providers like AWS.

Another myth Cloud is not for large companies.

Adobe Systems, Airbnb, Inc, Autodesk Inc, Docker, Intuit Inc, NASA, Netflix, Inc, Slack Technologies, Inc, Yelp Inc, and Zynga, Inc all these big companies use AWS. I would recommend cloud for all kinds of organizations both big and small unless they have strict location-based policies like servers should be hosted in the same country. You can check with cloud services providers for their data center locations and choose which data center to host your data.

Which enterprise applications to choose for cloud?

These are initial workloads that enterprises can be migrated to cloud or cloud solutions.

  • CRM : Salesforce, SAP C4C,
  • HCM :SucessFactors, Workday, Oracle
  • ERP- Oracle, SAP, Microsoft etc
  • Ecommerce- Shopify, BigCommerce, Volusion etc
  • Windows business applications
  • Linux and x86 workloads

I would recommend migrating your HR and CRM application initially as most of the companies in advanced countries have migrated to cloud-based solutions for HCM and CRM like SuccessFactors, Workday, Salesforce, SAP C4C etc. I will discuss more about which cloud based CRM or HCM to choose in another post.

I come from SAP Background and might be inclined to SAP solutions and products but companies like Oracle, Salesforce and Microsoft have good cloud-based solutions.

Regarding Cloud providers there are 3 popular companies AWS (Amazon), Azure (Microsoft) & Google cloud (Google cloud) all are good, AWS is widely used and Azure is more user friendly.

Traditionally, CEOs have come up through the ranks from the finance, sales or marketing side, so they don't necessary bring an in-depth understanding of technology deployments. But business leaders understand technology requirements, and technology executives must help to lead the business leaders to adapt to new challenges. Business, CEOs & CFOs needs to lead the technology direction. In today's environment, technology advantage means advantage over competitors. Technology & IT leaders should lead businesses & CEOs to Cloud direction.

I would say if you are not using cloud yet for your enterprise, you or your business are already lagging from your competitors. For any help on AWS, Azure, SAP, ORACLE, Successfactors, Workday, Salesforce, SAP C4C you can reach me on
